Installing the Mediation Server role is similar to deploying any other
role in Lync Server 2013. Much of the installation process is actually
completing the prerequisite work, and installing the actual server can
be done fairly quickly. A Mediation Server can be introduced into the
environment at any time and does not necessarily need to be deployed
from the start.
1. Prerequisites
A Mediation Server requires the same
prerequisite software as all other Lync Server roles. The different
hardware, operating system, and software prerequisites are discussed in
this section.
2. Hardware Recommendations
This section gives the recommended minimum hardware recommendations for Lync Server 2013 servers.
These are the Lync Server 2013 Mediation Server processor recommendations:
• Dual processor, quad-core 2.0GHz or faster
• Four-way processor, dual-core 2.0GHz or faster
Note
Lync Server 2013 is only a 64-bit application
and requires a 64-bit-capable processor. This is generally not an issue
with any modern hardware, but be sure to verify that any legacy
hardware supports a 64-bit operating system before attempting to use it
for a Mediation Server.
This is the Lync Server 2013 Mediation Server memory recommendation:
• 16GB RAM
These are the Lync Server 2013 Mediation Server disk recommendations:
• 10K RPM HDD
• High-performance solid state drive (SSD) with performance equal to or better than 10K RPM HDD
• 2x RAID 10 (striped and mirrored) 15K RPM disks for database data files
These are the Lync Server 2013 Mediation Server network recommendations:
• Dual 1Gbps network adapters (recommended)
• Single 1Gbps network adapter (supported)
Note
When using multiple network
adapters, it is recommended to use them only for fault tolerance. This
means network adapters should be used for failover only and should not
be combined for greater throughput.
3. Operating System Requirements
The Lync Server 2013 Mediation Server supports the following operating systems:
• Windows Server 2008 R2, Standard Edition with Service Pack 1
• Windows Server 2008 R2, Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 1
• Windows Server 2008 R2, Datacenter Edition with Service Pack 1
• Windows Server 2012, Standard Edition
• Windows Server 2012, Datacenter Edition
The Windows Server Core, Web, and
High-Performance Computing Editions for any operating system version
are not supported for deployment.
