2.4 Advertisement Interaction

The advertisement Interaction tab (shown in Figure 11) provides settings that were not configurable running the Distribute Software to Collection Wizard. These include the following:

  • Allow users to run the program independently of advertisements— Provides the ability to allow users to run the program independent of assignments (unchecked by default). If there is a requirement for users to be able to run the program that is advertised (whether it is assigned or not), the first box should be checked to allow this to occur. This causes the program to list as available for installation in the Run Advertised Programs within ConfigMgr.

  • Display reminders according to the client agent reminder intervals— Specify whether reminders are broadcast to the client according to the default interval configured on the Computer Client agent (grayed out unless the previous option is selected).

  • Use custom countdown notification length (minutes)— Set a custom count-down notification length—as an example, for an advertisement that will run for a long time or require a reboot at the end of the installation (this option is unchecked by default).

2.5 Advertisement Security

When you use the Distribute Software to Collection Wizard to create an advertisement, the default class and instance rights are associated with that advertisement. Figure 12 displays these settings, which default to allow the user creating the advertisement to control the advertisement. You can change advertisement permissions by selecting the Security tab on the advertisement. You can also define advertisement permissions in the Security Rights section of the ConfigMgr console under Site Database -> Security Rights -> Rights. You can configure permissions on the class or instance level in either of these two locations, defining which users have what level of permissions to the advertisement.
