Alfa MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde
The name is Italian for green cloverleaf,
and it’s been used by a number of classic Alfa Romeo sports cars over the
years. Today, it graces the flagship MiTo super minis. A 170bhp 1.4 turbo Multi
Air engine gives plenty of pace, while Alfa’s trick Q2 diff helps get the power
down. But the MiTo can’t back this up with cornering talent, as it’s not as
responsive as rivals such as the C

Chevrolet Camaro
The latest Camaro trades on its history.
The modern retro looks hark back to the classic sixties original, and the
muscle car formula of big V8 power and simple rear-wheel-drive transmission is
present and correct.
If you want to go quickly in a straight
line and enjoy a thrilling engine note in the process – the Camaro is the
perfect choice. Plus, the addition of independent rear suspension means it
handles better than any of its predecessors – although that’s not really saying
much, as it’s still a heavy, ponderous lump through corners. Still, the Chevy
has the measure of its Ford Mustang arch-rival.

Mercedes S65 AMG
If the V8 twin-turbo S63 AMG isn't
ostentatious enough for chauffeurs in a hurry, there's always the S65 AMG. It
has all the luxury you'd expect from Mercedes' soon-to-be-replaced into, but
the hand -built 6.9-liter twin-turbo V12 delivers 621bhp,for huge
performance-and the speed limiter can be removed, too. Just make sure whoever's
in the back is paying the fuel bills...

Audi S8
While it's not quite as fast as the S65 AMG,
the Audi S8 still offers performance that defies its size. Four-wheel drive
lets you fully exploit the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8's power, and a 0-6.2mph time
of 4.2 seconds is barely believable. Yet despite the host of the electrics
designed to tailor the driving experience to your every whim, there's
lifelessness to the handling-and that means the S8's at its best doing
three-figure speeds on the Autobahn.

Alfa Giulietta 1750 Cloverleaf
Catwalk looks held Alfa's Giulietta stand
out, and the Cloverleaf model offers a 235bhp 1.75-liter turbo. It’s more like
a rapid and relaxing upmarket five-door than a pure performance car, as it
can’t quite match the class best for straight-line pace or engaging handling.
However, for some people the mere fact that it's not your average hot hatch
puts the Giulietta ahead of its rivals.

Vauxhall VXR8
The Aussies love their V8 super saloons,
and luckily for us, Vauxhall decided that sister brand Holden's Commodore GTS
was the perfect flagship for its high-performance VXR range. The car has been
rebadged as the VXR8, but it retains its in-your-face looks and there's no
arguing with its straight-line pace, courtesy of a Corvette-sourced V8. If you
want more practicality, the VXR8 Tourer estate (right) has recently joined the
line-up, while the bonkers VXR8 Maloo pick-up is available for die-hard
attention seekers.

Abarth Punto Evo
It’s feeling its age, but the Abarth Punto
Evo has the racy touches to hold its own in the hot super mini class. Under the
bonnet is the same 1.4-liter Fiat turbo as in the Abarth 500, while there's a
bulging body kit, sports seats, smart alloys and scorpion badges. You can
personalize the car with different wheels and racy graphics, and a Super Sport
kit boosts power to 178bhp and gives a sharper drive.

Ginetta G40R
For over 50 years, Ginetta has been
building small, lightweight sports cars that owners could drive to the track
and race. The G40 combines a 175bhp 2.0-liter Ford engine and a 850kg kerb weight
to deliver scintillating pace. It does 0-6.0mph in 5.5 seconds, while a low
center of gravity and grippy semi-slick tires give it masses of grip – although
it's a bit too hardcore for the driving in town.

Skoda Fabia vRS
While Skoda's original diesel Fabia vRS
earned a reputation as a hot hatch slayer, the current car goes with the
petrol-powered norm. It uses the same turbo and supercharged TSI engine as the
VW Polo GTI and SEAT Ibiza FR, hooked up to a seven-speed DSG box.
But while the vRS looks like a fast hatch –
especially if you go for the distinctive metallic green paint option (right)-
it's lost some of the magic of the original. Still, this is a fun and efficient
performance car, and the vRS Estate is a unique offering on the super mini
market.

Mercedes ML63 AMG
Big 4x4s are a Mercedes specialty, and AMG
is famous for its monster engines, so it makes sense for the two to combine to
create a crazy SUV. The ML63 looks mean with it deep front bumper and standard
20-inch allots, while the twin-turbo V8 gives 0-6.2mph in 4.8 seconds, If
that's not fast enough, the $9,247 Performance Pack boosts power to 549bhp and
