The ford modular

The engine in this car is Ford's Modular V8. It first appeared in 1991, replacing the legendary Windsor V8 that's been around since the '60s and is still very popular with tuners.

The Modular is available in twin or quad-cam forms, with two, three, or four-valves per cylinder, and four different capacities: 4.6, 5.0,5.4, and for 2013 a 5.8-liter. Complicating things even further, there are alloy and iron block units, naturally aspirated and supercharged versions. Plus a massive range of cars and standard power outputs, from a modest I90bhp to a massive 660bhp! One thing's for sure, all are highly tunable. Upwards of 600bhp is possible on standard internals - even with the lowly 2-valves per cylinder 4.6-liter, and over 2000bhp has been achieved with race-spec quad cam engines.

Widow-maker performance in numbers

Although we haven't personally timed this monstrous car, there's been plenty of independent testing done in the USA, and the numbers involved really are special.

First up, 1100bhp which is around 100bhp more than a Bugatti Veyron, in a car that while still a heavyweight, is over 100kg lighter. Secondly, the top speed is an insane 230mph and gets to 200mph+ far faster than most supercars - its speed is limited by hitting the rev limiter in sixth gear!

The car has hit 175mph on the main straight at Thunder Hill Raceway in the USA, similar to what NASCAR and Indy Cars have been timed at in the same location. Finally, cornering - not something muscle cars are normally known for - has shown a supercar equaling, often beating, amounts of lateral G-force.
