One needs no monocle to see how nice the
2014 Bentley Flying Spur looks. The redesigned high-end sedan adds performance
and luxury and drops Continental from its name. Motor Trend got a first look of
the 2014 Bentley Flying Spur in February at a London studio, a month before its
debut at the Geneva motor show. Naturally, Bentley board members gushed over
the new sedan, which takes on some of the Mulsanne’s good looks up front, but
carries its own personality. Board members have reason to celebrate the new Flying
Spur, which they hope will help this high-end brand double its sales globally
in the next few years: It’s a beautiful machine.

The new sheet metal is elegantly pressed,
and the lower roofline gives it a beautiful profile. Bentley even used a
polymer deck lid to hide the antenna, keeping this sedan sharkfin-free. Elegant
touches abound, from the new front fender wing vents and chrome grille to the
bejeweled LED headlamps and taillights.

Under its aluminum hood, the Flying Spur is
powered by Bentley's 6.0-liter W-12 engine creating 616hp and 590 lb-ft of
torque. All that power is mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and
all-wheel-drive. To bolster performance, the Flying Spur sheds more than 100
pounds. Bentley says its top speed is 200 mph, and it will go from 0 to 60 mph
in 4.3 seconds. It's the fastest four-door Bentley ever made.

The interior offers nearly everything a
person could want, including a bottle cooler between the back seats, for those
who prefer their Champagne chilled. The leather-encased cabin stretches the
limits of pure luxury, and the wood grain on the dash matches the doors
exactly. The second row is more luxurious than business class on most
airplanes. Bentley even provides a tiny touch- screen remote to control the
rear seat entertainment, the heat, and the mobile Wi-Fi system that comes with
the vehicle.

If rich people weren't happy enough, the
Flying Spur gives them yet another reason to smile.
