Ford Fusion

Tech masterclass

Described as the most technologically advanced Ford ever sold here, the Fusion marks the return of the "family" sedan typified by Ford's Sierra and most recently, Mondeo. It is expected within the next year.

The Fusion's array of high-tech features encompasses driver aids to sophisticated engines. There's no definitive word on engine options yet, with a vast range to choose from. Ford will quite likely include EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engines and a turbodiesel.

Extending the family

The MG6 sedan is a familiar albeit not very common face on South African roads. Its smaller MG3 stablemate is due to arrive early next year, priced from $15,115, with more to follow by the second quarter.

Turning up the boost

A new 1,6-liter twin-scroll turbocharged engine with direct fuel injection delivering 150 kW and 265 N.m of torque is the  These two decidedly different sporty members of the Hyundai/Kia family should liven up things in the compact performance coupé sector. Up to now, the Veloster has been available with only a normally aspirated 1,6. The turbo version is scheduled to be launched towards the       middle of 2014. Looks-wise, the striking all-new Cerato Koup has less of big news the edginess of the outgoing model, but the turbo - Kia's first - ensures that it doesn't lack edge when it comes to performance.

Peugeot RCZ-R

Red hot

The most powerful production car yet from Peugeot boasts peak outputs of 199 kW and 330 N.m from just 1,6 liters. In fact, the turbo engine's specific power output of 124,5 kW per liter is said to be a record in its class. Performance is bracing, naturally, with 0 to 100 km/h in 5,9 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.

Sporty style

A reputation for high running costs and poor reliability and resale can't be turned around overnight, even if that reputation isn't well founded, says local CEO Francis Harnie. Besides extolling the company's efforts to boost its standing by means of improved maintenance plans, parts availability and the like, Harnie put out a reminder that its 208 topped its significant "supermini" category in the annual Kinsey Report spares price survey. He also took the time to reveal the cute, sporty 2008 small crossover, due here in February 2014.
