As the digits on the Mii’s odometer ticked over to ‘10,000’, it meant only one thing: time for the first service.

And just in case I hadn’t looked in the handbook to check the service intervals, an audible ‘dong’ and a flashing reminder on the trip computer greeted me each time I switched on the engine thereafter.

The nearest Seat dealer to the Autocar office is Spur Garage in Hampton Court, a garage well known to me from my time running a Leon Ecomotive. Spur managed to fit me in at short notice while I was out in Geneva at the recent motor show.

Coincidentally, I got the call to say the work had been done and that no major gremlins had been uncovered while poring over Seat’s smart-looking new Leon SC on its Geneva show stand.

Back to Hampton Court and a bill of $255 was waiting for me. That’s a fixed price for any Seat’s first 12-month/ 10,000-mile service and includes the usual oil and filter changes, plus a wash and vacuum and a ‘health check’ that came back positive in every regard.

Service costs are now fixed for the first 15 years of your Seat’s life. The 24-month/24,000-mile service will cost $285, and then it’s $195 and $375 in alternating years depending on whether it’s a minor or major service. Seat will also MOT your car for $59 a time.

So, servicing the Mii proved to be just like running the car itself: straightforward and satisfying.

The only gremlin uncovered during the Mii’s service was an issue relating to the driver’s door lock, which, you may remember, we have previously had some trouble with. Turns out that one of the plastic levers inside the lock was too big for the space it needed to occupy, which was why it kept sticking. In the end it would have broken, but for an eagle-eyed technician getting his hands dirty instead of simply squirting some WD-40 into the keyhole. The work would have cost around $45, but was carried out under warranty.

So, servicing the Mii proved to be just like running the car itself: straightforward and satisfying.
