The specifications look good on paper, but in reality it feels much more exciting than that. The moment you slot the gear lever into the ‘S’ mode and nail the throttle, you can feel the 105 PS and 175 Nm rushing towards the front wheels via the superb DSG box. The acceleration sets your pulse racing and you start wondering how the hell such a small engine manages to do so. And it gets better. The taco needle sprints towards the 6,000 RPM red-line and as it nears it, the DSG box quickly and seamlessly shifts up to deliver uninterrupted power. And before you know it, you are already doing triple-digit speeds. And the amazing thing is that the engine feels quite refined and smooth while doing all of this. No matter how much you push it, the 1.2l TSI motor never feels out of breath or its comfort zone.

Our performance test revealed that the Polo GT goes from standstill to 180 km/h in just 10.21 seconds and the top speed attained during our test was 180 km/h. Even the roll-on timings were pretty impressive as the CT went from 40 to 100 km/h in just 6.72 seconds, which is quite fast for a hatchback. The Polo GT’s high-speed performance was phenomenal and there is hardly any other hatchback in India that can rival it when it comes to performance. But top-end performance is not all, since a hatch also has to perform well at lower city speeds. And thanks to the TSI engine the GT manages to do so with panache. Just slot the gear lever into the ‘D’ mode and you are all set to go. The DSG gearbox is not just configured for high-speed performance, it is also built for easy drivability and fuel efficiency. You can easily cruise at 50 km/h in the seventh gear at 1,100 RPM and the TSI engine will never protest. This maximizes the fuel efficiency, which means a powerful and fun car that still manages to consume less fuel.

In our fuel efficiency test the Polo GT returned 11 km to a liter in the city and a very impressive 17 km/I on the highway, thus proving that twin charging and the automatic DSG gearbox are highly efficient as well.

When it comes to handling, the Polo has always impressed us immensely and the GT took that experience to another level altogether. The superb suspension set-up took care of the un undulations on the road quite well and it even once did I notice any body-roll Steering feel and feedback were great a always and the car easily changed directions without scaring me. The GT has been set up perfectly welt for India and it is great fun to drive.
