34. User Accounts
On home systems or systems that do not
connect to a domain you can use the User Accounts item to help you
create new accounts and configure various aspects of those accounts.
If you are working on a system that is
connected to a network domain, you will not be using this item because
your user accounts are configured by an administrator for you. An
exception to this would be if you wanted to configure local accounts on
the system.
Windows 8 differs from past operating systems for user account creation. Two different types of accounts are available to you:
• Microsoft Account—This
option requires you to provide an email account that is used for
Microsoft services. When you sign in to Windows using a Microsoft
account you will be able to
• Download Apps from the Windows Store.
• Get your online content (mail, calendar, photos) for your Microsoft apps automatically.
• Sync settings online to make other
Windows 8 computers associated with your Microsoft account look and
feel the same. This includes browser settings such as favorites and
history.
• Local Account—This type of account is used to log on to your local computer but will not have the extra features of a Microsoft account.
These accounts can be configured to be Standard or Administrator accounts.
