Adobe Flash Professional CS5 : Working Within the Flash Environment - Using the Tools Panel
When you customize the Tools panel, you can display more than one tool in a location. The top tool in the group appears with an arrow in the lower right corner of its icon. When you click and hold the pointer on the top tool, the other tools in the group appear in a popup menu.
QuarkXPress 8 : Pictures - Working with Photoshop files
When a native Photoshop picture is selected (you can use either the Item tool or the Picture Content tool to select), the controls in the three panes of the PSD Import palette let you manipulate the picture’s layers, channels, and paths.
QuarkXPress 8 : Pictures - Cropping, positioning, and scaling
If you want to print only part of a picture, you have the option of cropping the graphic file using an image-editing program. But an easier option—and one that doesn’t actually delete anything from the original graphic file—is to crop imported pictures within QuarkXPress.
Adobe InDesign CS5 : Working with Objects and Layers - Aligning Objects
In addition to using grids and guides to align objects to a specific point, you can align a group of objects to each other. The alignment buttons on the Align and Control panels make it easy to align two or more objects relative to each other or to the page.
Adobe InDesign CS5 : Working with Objects and Layers - Grouping and Combining Objects
Selecting and grouping objects makes it easier to work with multiple objects as if they were a single object. You can easily select, cut, copy, paste, move, recolor, and transform a grouped object. You can group all types of objects, yet still edit individual objects within the group as needed without having to ungroup them first by using the Direct Selection tool.
Corel Painter X : Drawing People - Self-Portrait (part 3) - Let Yourself Go
Multicolor Clumpy Brush strokes look great on the scarf and not bad on the hat. Figure 8 has a detail of this state. I’m going to use my artistic license (before it expires) and explore some painterly effects on the background.
Corel Painter X : Drawing People - Self-Portrait (part 2) - Mix and Match
I really like the colors in the scarf, and I can make them into a color set by dragging a lasso selection loosely around that area (nobody wants a tight scarf) and then using the Color Sets menu option to make a New Color Set from Selection
Corel Painter X : Drawing People - Self-Portrait (part 1) - Be Yourself
Feel free to work with more than one reference photo, combining the best aspects of them in your digital portrait. Plan to use a painting style compatible with your personality and artistic instincts. If you tend to prefer a loose, casual style (as I do), don’t hold back.
CorelDRAW X5 : Navigation and Page Setup - Zooming and Panning Pages
There are at least two meanings in CorelDRAW for the term view, and the previous sections have covered only one of them: view quality, the level of detail with which you see your work. Zooming—increasing and decreasing the resolution of a page—and panning (sliding your view without zooming, similar to using the scroll bars on the edge of a document window) are the topics of the sections to follow.
CorelDRAW X5 : Navigation and Page Setup - Setting View Mode
View modes are used to specify how your drawing appears onscreen. Modes offer feedback as to how a design will print or export, and lower-quality view modes can help you locate an object hidden by other objects. You switch between view modes by using the View menu and through keyboard shortcuts.
CorelDraw 10 : Complex Shapes - Drawing Perfect Shapes
A new feature in CorelDraw 10, Perfect Shapes are predefined, familiar objects that you can create as easily as drawing rectangles and ellipses.
CorelDraw 10 : Complex Shapes - Creating Spirals, Drawing Grids
You can create two types of spirals: symmetrical and logarithmic. The space between revolutions of a symmetrical spiral is constant, while the spacing in a logarithmic spiral increases with each new revolution.
CorelDraw 10 : Complex Shapes - Polygons and Stars
A polygon is a multisided closed figure. The simplest form of polygon is a triangle: a three-sided object. CorelDraw 10 enables you to create polygons with as many as 500 sides. A star is just a special instance of a polygon. Once you've a drawn polygon, you can easily change it into a star and vice versa.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 : Working with Web Page Tables - Inserting a Table in Standard Mode
When you insert a table using Standard mode, you get a very ordered table... think spreadsheet and you’ve got a pretty good idea of what I’m talking about. And once the table is created, you can, if you choose, to make changes in Standard or Expanded Table mode.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 : Working with Tables, Switching Between Table Modes
You can create tables using two different modes: Standard and Expanded Tables. Each mode has its strengths and weaknesses. Standard mode is useful for creating and displaying a table as it will appear in a Web browser and adding and editing content.

Duplicating objects can be a powerful way of creating geometrical artwork. You can duplicate one or more selected objects by dragging them, using Arrow keys, copying to and pasting from the Clipboard, or using the Offset Path command.
Adobe Illustrator CS5 : Working with Objects - Saving and Editing Selections, Moving Objects
If you frequently select the same elements in a document, you can save yourself some time by saving the selection with a name of your choice. After you save a selection, the saved selection name appears as a menu command at the bottom of the Select menu.
Adobe Illustrator CS5 : Working with Objects - Selecting Similar Objects
The Select menu provides a variety of powerful selection commands for you to use in a document or artboard. In addition to the common commands, such as All, Deselect, and Inverse, you can also select objects whose attributes are similar to the current or last selection.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 : Camera Raw—Beyond the Basics - Editing Multiple Photos at Once
One of the biggest advantages of using Camera Raw is that it enables you to apply changes to one photo, and then easily apply those exact same changes to a bunch of other similar photos taken in the same approximate setting.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 : Camera Raw—Beyond the Basics - Double-Processing to Create the Uncapturable
As good as digital cameras have become these days, when it comes to exposure, the human eye totally kicks their butt. That’s why we shoot so many photos where our subject is backlit, because with our naked eye we can see the subject just fine (our eye adjusts)
Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5 : Modify the Contents of a State
Each state's contents can be modified at will without affecting other states. Often, modifications to states will simply involve either deleting components that you do not want in a state or hiding their layers and then either adding new components from the library or showing their layers.
Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5 : Creating States in the Main Application
The Pages/States panel in Catalyst allows you to create and manage view states. A new application will have a single state, but the panel allows you to create as many additional states as you want. States can either be created as duplicates of an existing state or as new blank states.
Adobe After Effects CS5 : Animating Text - Animating text opacity, Using a text animator group
Text animator groups let you animate individual letters within a block of text in a layer. You’ll use a text animator group to animate only the characters in your middle name without affecting the tracking and opacity animation of the other names in the layer.
Adobe After Effects CS5 : Animating Text - Animating type tracking
You’ll animate the appearance of the director’s name in the composition using a text animation tracking preset. By animating tracking, you can make words appear to expand outward as they appear onscreen from a central point.
Adobe After Effects CS5 : Animating Text - Animating text using a path animation preset
You’ve seen how versatile and convenient text animation presets can be. You’ll use another type of text animation preset to animate the words directed by along a motion path. After Effects includes several animation presets that animate text along a prebuilt path.

If you need more workspace, you can use the double-arrow button (at the top of a panel group) to quickly minimize a panel group, such as the Tools panel or Property Inspector. When you click the double-arrow button, the panel group collapses to icons, which increases the size of the workspace.
