Devices and printers are managed differently in the tile-based UI than on the Desktop: Bringing a device or printer online is more automated, and there are fewer settings that you need to modfiy. That’s to keep the settings you access from the Charms bar simple and accessible with your fingers. Devices are managed through the Devices section of the PC Settings screen. Let’s take a look.

To add a device to Windows 8 from the Start screen

1. To view the Charms bar, swipe from the right side of your display or press Image+ C.

2. Tap or click the Settings charm .

2. Tap or click the Delete button that appears to the right of the device’s button .

3. In the “Are you sure you want to remove this device?” alert box, tap or click the Remove button.

That’s pretty much all there is to device management in the new interface—it either works or it doesn’t.

Tip

You can print documents to files and use those files to print to devices later.
