4. Software Requirements
The Lync Server 2013 Mediation Server requires the following components to be installed:
• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5
• Windows Management Framework 3.0
• Windows Identity Foundation
• Visual C++ 11 Redistributable
5. Server Roles and Features
The Mediation Server does not require that any additional roles and services be deployed.
6. Create a Mediation Server Pool
After the server has been fully
prepared for installation, the topology must be edited and published to
reflect the new Mediation Server Pool. This involves both editing the
existing topology and then republishing the updated topology so that
the Mediation Server role can be installed on all servers in the pool.
7. Steps to Edit the Existing Topology
The next step in deploying a Mediation Server
is to edit the existing Lync Server topology. To edit the topology
follow these steps:
Note
If the Topology Builder is not already
installed on the local computer or another computer in the environment,
it can be installed from the Lync Server 2013 media.
1. Open the Lync Server Topology Builder.
2. When prompted to
select the source topology, select Download Topology from Existing
Deployment to retrieve the current topology.
3. Enter a location to which to save the temporary topology file.
4. Expand the Site node where the Mediation Server will be deployed.
5. Expand the Lync Server 2013 node.
6. Right-click on the Mediation Pools node and select New Mediation Pool.
7. If deploying a pool
of servers, leave Multiple Computer Pool selected, enter the fully
qualified name of the Mediation Server Pool in the Pool FQDN field. If
you are deploying a single server, select Single Computer Pool and
enter the FQDN of the server, and click Next.
8. Enter the fully qualified name of the Mediation Servers in the Computer FQDN field, click the Add button, and click Next.
9. Select a next hop
server. This Front End Pool will be where the Mediation Server will
route all inbound calls for lookup. Click Next.
10. Select an Edge Server Pool to be used for Media Relay, and click Finish.
8. Steps to Publish the Updated Topology
After the topology has been modified to
include the Mediation Server Pool, the configuration can be published.
This step publishes the changes to the Central Management Store, and
all existing Lync Server 2013 servers will update their local
configuration stores to match. Follow these steps to publish the
updated topology.
1. Ensure that the Lync Server Topology Builder is still open and contains the Mediation Server Pool recently added.
2. Click the Action menu, select Topology, and then and select Publish.
3. Click Next to begin publishing the topology.
4. Review the Publishing Wizard log for any errors or warnings and remediate as necessary.
5. When the log indicates a successful update, click Finish to complete the wizard.
