Westfield Sport Turbo ST3
Westfield has been building its open-topped
two-seaters for more than 30 years. While the ST3 looks similar to the
Caterham, it's a completely different animal underneath. It uses the 1.6-liter
turbocharged engine from the Vauxhall Corsa VXR (right), hooked up to a
five-speed Mazda MX-5 gearbox. In a car weighing 650kg, the means a 0-60mph
time similar to an Audi R8's.

Noble M600
British supercar brand Noble's M600 has
Ferrari and Porsche firmly in its sights. The compact two-seater uses a V8 from
the Volvo XC90,although the addition of twin turbochargers boosts it to
650bhp,giving a top speed of 225mph.And in a nod to pure driving thrills,
electronic driver aids – like traction and stability control, and even ABS are
consigned to the options list.

Vauxhall Corsa VXR
The Corsa VXR is an old-school hot hatch,
with in-your-face looks and punchy turbo power. The chunky body kit leaves you
in no doubt about its intensions, although the little racer does come in a
variety of lairy colors to help make an even bigger impact. It packs a punch on
the road, too, courtesy of its 189bhp 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, which
gives 0-6.0mph in just 6.8 seconds. However, while there's decent feedback from
the steering, the VXR doesn't quite have the polished handling of some of its
rivals.

Nissan Juke Nismo
Transforming a high-riding crossover into a
sports car is no easy task, but Nissan has done a pretty-good job with the Juke
Nismo. It's the first in a wave of Nismo models due in UK showrooms, and neat
red and black detailing inside and out helps it stand out from the standard
car. Under the bonnet, the 197bhp 1.6-liter turbo engine delivers 0-62mph in
8.2 seconds. However, cornering performance is compromised by the Nismo's high
center of gravity. And if you want a sporty driving experience, avoid the
four-wheel-drive version – it’s spoiled by its CVT auto gearbox.

Swedish car maker Koenigsegg has been a
front-runner in the contest to produce the world's faster car since 2002, and
its latest model, the Agera, goes toe to toe with the Bugatti Veyron on
technology and performance. The Agera's 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 packs 927bhp,
while the biofuel-powered Agera R's engine produces 1,140bhp, and it good for a
0-62mph time of 2.8 seconds.

Tesla Roadster
Add hi-tech electric drive to a Lotus Elise
chassis, and you get one of the most intriguing sports cars on the market. The
Tesla Roadster is about 300kg heavier than an Elise, thanks to the banks of
advanced batteries that sit behind the cockpit, but it still handles crisply.
The car's direct drive means instant acceleration at a press of the throttle,
with 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds.

Volvo V40 T5 R-Design
Compact hatchbacks don't come much more
stylish than the V40. Under the skin, it can trade its roots back to the Ford
Focus Mk II, while the T5 model uses the same five-cylinder turbo petrol engine
as the last-generation ST. That means searing straight-line pace and a
fantastic warble from the exhausts. It's just a pity this Volvo isn't quite up
to scratch when it comes to handling finesse.

M5 saloon, and is good for a 0-62mph time of 4.7 seconds. Four-wheel drive and
hi-tech electronics distribute power to the wheels to keep this 2.4 ton monster
on track.

72. MINI JCW Countryman
While Mini's World Rally Championship
campaign faltered after only a year, the fruits of its labors live on in the
John Cooper Works Countryman. The chunky crossover is the only JCW model with
four-wheel drive. The 1.6-liter turbo engine has up to 300Nm of torque on over boost,
delivering 0-62mph in seven seconds exactly .There's plenty of grip through
bends, too.

71. Citroen DS3 Racing
The DS3 Racing is Citroen's answer to the
MINI John Cooper Works. It's offered only in white and black (above) or grey
and orange paintjobs, while the 1.6-liter turbo is shared with the JCW –
although it isn't quite as powerful as the MINI's engine. The DS3 Racing can't
match the baby Brit for driving thrills, either, but a limited production run
means the Citroen has exclusivity on its side.
