Long-term JX35 steams through an action-packed third quarter

The third quarter with our long-term Infiniti JX35 saw this luxury ute tackle everything from a snow-blasted ski trip in Northern Michigan to the lovely traffic-jammed daily commutes of our staffers. Throw in a camping trip in the Pennsylvania hills and it’s safe to say our JX35 can handle almost anything we throw at it.

During our adventures, we racked up more than 6,429 miles and saw the odometer tick past the 23,000-mile mark. That’s impressive mileage for only nine months of use.

More notable is the log book that’s filled with entries from staffers lauding the fact that the JX35 continues to be squeak- and rattle-free despite the many miles of hard use. One editor wrote, “The cabin remains a quiet place and appears to be holding up well, which speaks to the good build quality.”

All those miles meant we had to take the JX35 in for both the 18,750- and 22,500-mile service marks in a single quarter. The two trips to the dealer cost us a total of $108 and included an oil change, tire rotation and general inspection.

Many staffers have also commented on how well the V6 and continuously variable transmission perform. The 3.5-liter cranks out 265hp, which is enough pep to get the Infiniti moving nicely. And while most of us dislike the breed, the CVT bolted to the JX’s V6 does a decent job. “It’s a little odd to hear the engine wail for a bit when you are booting it to get up to speed, but since there is respectable power, you’re never in the wailing range for long,” noted on editor.

The combo does provide relatively decent fuel economy for a big vehicle, but our lead feet were in full effect during quarter three, causing us to get our lowest average to date: 18.13mpg. I total, we spent $1,367 on 354 gallons of fuel thanks to the premium-octance requirement.

But without a doubt, our favorite thing about the JX is its outstanding ride comfort. One staffer justly dubbed the JX “our long-term luxury liner”. Toss in the utility and interior space, and the JX takes the belt as our people-hauling champion.
