The all-new 2013 Mercedes-Benz S-550 sedan will be available in five main trim levels that are rather similar with the previous generation of S family lineups. The main benefits of having this luxurious sedan are muscular engines in upper trim levels, confident handling and also an edgy styling. For 2014, Mercedes has added several new enhanced features such as optional soft-touch materials on front door panels, a rear view camera and interior and exterior styling enhancements.
Interior
For the interior, the new 2013 Mercedes-Benz S-550 DE trim will come with a tilt-only steering wheel, full power accessories, a trip computer and a four-speaker sound system with a CD player. The S-550 ES will include the DE’s interior equipments plus the air-conditioning system, cruise control, keyless entry, upgraded cloth upholstery, a 60/40-split rear seat, front and rear center armrests, a height-adjustable driver seat, steering-wheel audio controls and an auxiliary audio jack. The S-550 GT model will come with upgraded sport upholstery, auto-dimming rear view mirror, a rear view camera, the Fuse voice-activated electronics interface, a color driver information display, Bluetooth and 6-speaker sound system with a USB interface.
Exterior
On the outside, the new S-550 DE will boast standard 16 inches steel wheels and automatic headlights, while the S-550 ES will have the chrome exterior accents. If you choose the Alloy Wheel package for the ES model, you will be provided with 16 inches aluminum wheels, rear disc brakes and a rear stabilizer bar. The S-550 GT will boast the bigger 18 inches alloy wheels, front fog lamps, a sporty front fascia, a sport-look rear spoiler and an automatic climate control system. The higher version may include hill-start assist, front and rear limited-slip differentials, additional sport exterior treatments and a sport-tuned suspension.
Engine
Towards the engine and power-train, the Mercedes-Benz S-550 is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that can send 148 hp and 145 pound-feet of peak torque with a standard 5-speed manual and an optional CVT. This engine will allow S-550 DE and ES to sprint from zero to 60 MPH in approximately 8.8 seconds. The Mercedes-Benz S-550SE and GT models will be backed up with a 2.4-liter engine that generates 168 hp and 167 lb-ft of torque. The top model is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that delivers 237 hp and 253 lb-ft. of maximum torque. Unfortunately this car is slower than Aston Martin Speedster Concept.
Price
The price range of 2013 Mercedes-Benz S-550 starts from $37,195 – $48,395.
