Was the $107,605 C63 AMG Black Series a bit
too nutty for you? No problem-Mercedes-Benz has something a bit less
ostentatious, called the Edition 507.
The big news starts under the hood. Benz
engineers have modified the M156 naturally aspirated 6.2-literV-8 to produce
507hp (hence the name) and 450 lb-ft of torque, representing a 56-hp and
7-lb-ft bump over a standard C63 AMG. That’s 26 more hp than a car equipped
with the $6050 AMG Development Package ($70,985 total), which will be
discontinued once the Edition 507 arrives. Engine modifications mimic those of
the Black Series as Benz turns to the SLS AMG's parts bin for its forged
pistons, new connecting rods, and a lightweight crankshaft for a total weight
savings of 6.6 pounds. A revised engine control unit rounds off the engine
modifications.

The C63 AMG Edition 50Ts power is sent to
the rear wheels via AMGS seven-speed wet- clutch automatic transmission, and
Mercedes claims the car will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 41 seconds-0.3
second quicker than the regular C63 AMG and 0.2 second quicker than the
Development Package model. For reference, we tested a C63 AMG coupe with the
Development Package and achieved a 0-60 mph of just 3.7 seconds, same as the
Black Series.
In addition to the engine mods, the Edition
507 will sport an upgraded braking system with compound brake discs that are
lighter and more resistant to fade compared with the regular units. Six-piston
calipers are fitted up front, and four-piston clampers are used out back. The
special C63 also gets exclusive 19-inch lightweight forged rims.

Distinct visual cues start up front, where
the Edition 507 is fitted with the same vented hood as the C63 Black Series,
with high-gloss black exterior accents. A matte gray "AMG sports
stripe" is placed above the rocker panels and an exclusive Designo Magno
Platinum matte exterior paint finish is available. Inside, customers can choose
between Designo leather or a combination of Designo leather and a suede-like
material. The instrument panel will feature exclusive red accents, and an
Edition 507 badge is affixed on the passenger side dashboard trim. The steering
wheel is covered in Alcantara with contrasting stitching and has a 12-oclock
marking.
Pricing will be announced closer to launch
this summer, but we expect the Edition 507 to start in the low 70s.
