Sleeper time

Part of the appeal of the fiery Fiesta is the fact it looks so unassuming. There's nothing on the exterior that would lead you to believe this is anything more than a little 1.25-liter treated to a few cheeky styling mods. From the subtle Focus ST170 rims, to the color-coded bodywork it all looks harmless enough.

"I wanted it to be almost OE like Ford had done it," says Wayne, which is why he's used Ford parts wherever he can. Inside, you'll find a full interior from a Fiesta Black edition, together with tidy Momo wheel and a Fiesta ST gear knob.

Anyone foolish enough to assume that it's just 'a Fiesta on a set of wheels' will get a shock when the T25 spools up and it buggers off up the road, "it was a bit damp and I changed down to 4th at 80mph and got wheel spin!" laughs Wayne. "My mate's Nova is running over 300bhp and it keeps up with that." With potential for serious mischief, Wayne has wisely upgraded the chassis to cope with the extra power. A set of Spax coilovers provide a much stiffer, controlled ride, while the poly bushes further tighten up the handling. The stock brakes would've thrown in the towel, but the Wilwood 4-pots are more than up to the job.

Whatever your thoughts about the styling, there's no getting away from the fact Wayne has built a truly unique car that offers a large hit of performance. And the fact he's done it with some shrewd wheeler dealing, rather than chucking a credit card at it, makes it all the sweeter.

Turbo a 1.7 lump

Although Van Aaken did a conversion years back, turbo 1.7 SE lumps are rare. With the exhaust manifold tucked away at the back of the bay, it makes fitting a turbo tricky. To do it, Wayne had to trial fit the engine, then offer up the T25 to the manifold to see where it'd fit without fouling the bulkhead. It was then a case of machining an adapter plate to fit it. The oil feeds needed to be custom made, together with the boost hoses, intercooler pipes and downpipe. A custom map was added to the ECU. With forged internals, Skyline injectors and a 3in exhaust, Wayne estimates power to be 250-260bhp.
