The first spy shots of the all-new
Lamborghini Gallardo have surfaced online, and we’ve produced an exclusive
image to show how the sharper, sleeker ‘mini Aventador’ may look.
The Ferrari 458 rival is expected to be
called Cabrera, and is set to star as a concept at September’s Frankfurt Motor
Show before going on sale late next year. It’s a long overdue replacement for
the Gallardo, which was launched way back in 2003.
“Car
will share its predecessor’s wedgy profile, but with longer, lower bonnet”
Although the car in the spy shots wears a
heavy camouflage, several things are clear. Firstly, it will share its
predecessor’s wedge profile, but the bonnet appears longer and lower, while
even larger bumper ‘nostrils’ are joined by a central intake. Bulbous cladding
suggests another intake just ahead of the rear wheel arch, and possibly a pair
of flying buttresses.
Our
spies caught new car on road, with huge exhausts and air intakes hinting at its
600bhp potential
At the rear, the quad-tailpipe arrangement
is carried over, with more angular ends. The whole back end protrudes higher,
too.
The first sighting of the Lamborghini is
preparing to begin full-scale testing of the Cabrera on public roads. With the
Frankfurt show only three months away, that timescale makes sense.
Lamborghini
Cabrera interior
The Cabrera will share the 2015 Audi R8’s
platform, so expect a groundbreaking multi-material chassis mixing carbon fiber
and aluminum to reduce weight. Carbon body panels will shave off further
kilograms, meaning the Cabrera could weigh as little as 1,300kg in
two-wheel-drive form. Four-wheel-drive cars will add another 30kg to that.

Power is set to come from a significantly
revised version of the 5.2-litre V10 with around 600bhp – that’s 38bhp more
than in the current LP 570-4. This promises lower emissions, too, and cylinder
deactivation could boost economy. Plus, a far smoother seven-speed dual-clutch
box will replace the clunky e-gear automated manual.
