Rooms are a new feature on Windows Phone 8.
Rooms are a private environment where you can interact with specific
people without having to worry about publicly exposing things that
should be kept private. For example, you might create a room for a
group of friends, a room for family, or a room for coworkers.
Although rooms are a Windows Phone 8 feature,
the participants do not necessarily need to have Windows Phone 8.
People can join rooms that you create if they have Windows Phone 7 or
the iPhone. However, they cannot use the Group Chat feature. Likewise,
some of the other room features might not be quite as full-featured as
they would be on Windows Phone 8. Regardless of whether or not
participants have a Windows Phone 8 device, a Microsoft account is
required.
Creating a Room
The first step in using the Rooms feature is
usually to create a room. Windows Phone 8 devices include a predefined
room called Family Room, but you can delete this room, if necessary.
You can create a room by opening the People hub and completing these
steps:
1. Flick the screen to access the Together page, if necessary.
2. Tap the New icon.
3. Tap Room.
4. Specify a name for the room you want to create. This is the name that is displayed on each member’s phone.
5. Tap Save.
6. Tap the Done icon.
