Windows 8 allows you to run the same
apps on PCs, tablets, and phones. Chances are that you will want to use
the same data and settings as you move from device to device. The best
way to do that is to synchronize your data. If you use a local account
on a PC, you will have to use a third-party solution to perform data
synchronization. But if you log in to your computer with a Windows Live
account, you can synchronize some of your app settings and passwords,
your personalization settings, and settings for devices such as your
mouse and keyboard.
To set up data synchronization
1. Press +C to open the Charms bar, and then tap or click the Settings charm .
The Settings charm
2. Click the Change PC settings link at the bottom of the Settings bar .
The Change PC settings link
3. Click the Users link in the left navigation bar, and then log in to your Microsoft account .
Log in to your Microsoft account on the Users page.
4. Click the Sync your settings link in the PC Settings bar, and then drag the sliders to synchronize data elements .
Turn on the Sync Your Settings features on this page, and your data synchronizes through Windows Live.
Tip
You might want to consider turning
off the setting that allows synchronizing when your device is on a
metered connection, because that could add to your data charges. You
also may want to turn off the setting that allows synchronizing while
you are roaming, which will add to data charges and may drain your
battery faster than you might like.
