Windows 8 Tile-Based Apps : Calendar

Calender stores your events, lets you view events in various day and time formats, and provides reminders when you require them. There are options to color different categories of items and to hide or show events. Calendar is fully touch enabled; it’s easy to move around between events and to switch views.

To add an event to Calendar

1. Tap or click the Calendar tile  to open the Calendar app.

The last Calendar view you had open appears on your screen.

2. To open the New Event/Edit Event page, swipe from the bottom edge or right-click to see the Calendar toolbar, then tap or click the New Event button .

Tap or click the time period of an event.

3. In the Details section, enter the event’s title, duration, and frequency, along with whatever reminder you need , then tap or click the Save button in the upper-right corner.

When you create an event, Calendar sends a reminder to the email address that you used to register the service.

To modify an event

1. Tap or click the event.

2. If it is a recurring event, tap or click the Change One or Change All button in the dialog box .

To create multiple calendars

1. Display the Charms bar, then click the Settings button.

2. Click Options . Choose whether to Show or Hide the calendar, and select a color.

To move forward or backward in time

• Move forward days, weeks, or months by swiping left, pressing the Page Down key, or tapping or clicking the Forward button.

• Move backward by swiping right, pressing the Page Up key, or tapping or clicking the Back button.

To add calendars from other cloud services

1. Tap or click Settings in the Charms bar.

2. Tap or click Accounts, then click the Add an account link.

3. Tap or click the service you want to add .

4. Enter the email account and password associated with your cloud service . This will ensure that Calendar can access that service’s events.

5. Tap or click the Connect button.

When you create an event, Calendar sends reminders to your email at the times you requested in the event details . Calendar also posts a reminder notice in the upper-right corner of your device display.


Tip

Press Ctrl+1 to view the Day calendar, Ctrl+2 to view the Week calendar, and Ctrl+3 to view the Month calendar. Calendar is also well suited to be snapped to the side of your display so that it is always viewable while you work.
