5. Adding .adm Templates
Let’s
look at an example in which you need to add the Visio11.adm template to
a GPO named OFFICE11. The Visio11.adm template is currently located on
the desktop of the computer from which you are editing the GPO. To add the template, follow these steps after opening the OFFICE11 GPO in the GPME:
1. | Right-click
the Administrative Templates node under the Computer Configuration
section of the GPO, and then click Add/Remove Templates.
|
2. | In the Add/Remove Templates dialog box, click Add.
|
3. | In the Policy Templates dialog box, select Desktop in the console tree pane.
|
4. | Select
the Visio11.adm template in the list. Click Open. You will see the
Add/Remove Templates dialog box with the Visio11.adm template listed,
as shown in Figure 2.
|
After the .adm template has been imported to the GPO, you can see the Visio node and policy settings in the GPO, as shown in Figure 3.
By
default, newly created GPOs that have not been edited will create a new
Group Policy template (GPT), but without any associated .adm templates
or the ADM folder in the GPT folder structure. After the GPO is edited
with the GPME, the .adm templates from the %windir%\Inf folder of the
computer performing the administration are copied to the GPT. These
.adm templates are placed in a newly created ADM folder. When
additional .adm templates are added to the GPO, they are also uploaded
to the GPT and placed in the ADM folder.
