If there is a site or web page that
you will return to, you can choose to pin this page to your Start
screen. When you pin a page, it becomes a tile that you can tap or
click to return to that page instantly.
To create a Start screen tile
1. Go to the page you wish to save as a pinned site.
2. Tap or click the Pin To Start button (the pushpin) .
Create a custom Start screen tile using the push pin button.
3. Enter a name for the tile, or edit the current label.
4. Tap or click the Pin To Start button.
Once you pin a web page to the Start screen,
it appears as a tile at the right of your other tile groups. In the
tile-based interface, the tile takes the predominant color of the web
page and displays the website’s favicon or a badge.
It is convenient to have a section of your
favorite sites; they make navigation very convenient, and they appear
in the Favorites section above the address bar whenever you enter a new
page. In Figure 1, you can see a section of tiles for some of the websites that I visit often.

Web page tiles are like other tiles on the
Start screen—they are live. If the website developer supports it, the
tile can display live information, changing background and information
as time goes by.
To go to a recent or favorite (pinned) page
Tap or click a tile in the Frequent or Pinned
sections above the address bar. You can swipe right or left, or scroll,
to see additional choices.
Tip
If the tile for Internet Explorer
gets unpinned from the Start screen and is missing, you can easily
restore it. Open the Search charm, click Apps, and enter Internet
Explorer into the Search field. Right-click the Internet Explorer
result, and select Pin To Start from the Apps bar at the bottom of the
screen.
