Biometrics instead of passwords
Device protection through finger prints and the like
is convenient and safe – but involves risks for the user
Everyone wants security as well as convenience. According to
Apple, only about half the iPhone users make use of the option of protecting
their iOS smartphones with a password. Apple intends to change this and has
thus integrated TouchID in the new iPhone 5S. TouchID is a method by which
users can unlock their phones with a finger print. Although this function is
very convenient, it brings with it many risks. Apple assures that neither is
the complete finger print saved in the device nor is the data made available to
other apps or sent via web to the Apple headquarters. However, Apple can’t
exactly guarantee the safety of users because the storage process remains.

MicrosoftPlana 3D phone calls for Skype
If Microsoft has its way, users will be able to make 3D
calls via Skype in the future. All you need for this is a 3D screen and two
cameras. According to Microsoft, many users already have 3D screens. But the
camera technology needs to be developed further because both the devices need
to be accurately calibrated to each other. This has only been successful in the
lab. According to Skype Vice President Mark Gillet, it would take a couple of
years more for the functionality to become popular and available to the masses.

Augmented Reality Glasses With Camera
The development startup Meta has designed special augmented
reality glasses, which projects objects in 3D on the lenses. The idea is to
make objects soar directly in front of the user. A built-in TOF camera records
the hand movements of the user. It can then capture the displayed object and
turn it as required. This project, called Space Glasses, has already made
approximately $195,000 on the popular crowd funding platform Kickstarter. Meta
is selling a developer version for $670. The price of the end customer version
has not been revealed yet.
