4.2 Configuring the Synchronization Connection
The process for creating a
synchronization connection for SharePoint Profile Synchronization is
very similar to the process for Active Directory Import. The only
significant difference is how you configure the connection filters,
which is described in the next set of steps. First, create the
connection:
1. Under the Synchronization section of the Manage User Profile Service page, click Configure Synchronization Connections.
2. Click
Create New Connection. At this point you may get an error indicating
that the sync service is not running; if so, you need to ensure that
the service has started or you won’t be able to create a connection.
3. Enter a name in the Connection Name box.
4. Enter the fully qualified domain name for the synchronization.
5. You can let SharePoint auto-discover your domain controller or you can specify one.
6. Select the Authentication Provider type. Most administrators will use Windows Authentication.
7. Enter the account name and password of the Active Directory account you configured to do the import. Figure 5 shows the resultant dialog.
8. Make sure the default port is correct, and enable the check box if your domain uses SSL.
9. Click Populate Containers to load the tree view.
10. Select the objects to be included in the import, and click OK.
