The most talked-about new jaguar for years, the F-Type
roadster went on sale locally in august, and it's already been a hit,
reflecting the reception it's received around the world.
Australian enthusiasts got their first look at the F-Type
back in April, when it starred alongside a C-Type, D-Type and E-Type at the
44th National Jaguar rally in Wollongong. More recently, the F-Type also was a
star at RACV Motorclassica in Melbourne, where it was on display alongside an
XFR-S sedan.
Jaguar F-Type
Described by Jaguar as the company's first full-blooded
sports car in more than 50 years, the F-Type is available locally in three
versions - F-Type, F-Type S and F-Type V8 S. The entry F-Type and S feature a
supercharged 3.8-litre V6, with the V8 S powered by a 5.0-litre V8.
Power ranges from 250kW (F-Type V6), through 280kW (F-Type
V6 S), on to 364kW in the range-topping F-Type V8 S. Torque varies from 450Nm
to 460Nm and 625Nm across the same range. All engines featuring stop/start
technology to maximize efficiency.
A 'SportShift' 8-speed automatic transmission is standard
across all models, which can be operated in full Auto mode, Sports or
race-style 'manual' mode with straight shifting. A multi-speed manual is
reportedly being considered as a future option.

A mechanical limited slip diff is used on the F-Type and
F-Type S, while the V8 S uses an electronic diff with multi-plate clutch that
transfers torque to whichever wheel has the most traction. An Active Exhaust
system, standard on the S and V8 S, features bypass valves that open under hard
acceleration for a free-flowing exhaust and more audible note. Quoted fuel
economy figures range from 9.0lt/100km up to 11.1lt/100km on the V8 S.
Disc brakes vary in size from the 354/325mm front/rear combo
on the F-Type, to 380/325mm on the F-Type S and 380/376mm on the F-Type V8 S.
Similarly, the wheel package ranges from 18-inch (F-Type) to 19-inch (F-Type V6
S) and up to 20-inch, with chunky 10.5-inch wide rear wheels, on the F-Type V8
S.
Inside, the F-Type is very much a “driver's car”, with a low
dash, sports seats, center console grab handle, flat-bottom steering wheel and
no superfluous controls. Comfort hasn't been neglected, though, with dual zone
climate control standard, along with an 8-inch color touch screen for all
navigation and infotainment systems.

A high-spec audio system is standard across all variants,
with two optional Meridian upgrades available. The poweroperated
soft top roof opens and closes in 12 seconds, and features 'Thinsulate' lining
for temperature and noise control.
The F-TYPE’s RRP includes Free Scheduled Servicing for 3
years or 100,000 km (whichever comes first), as per Jaguar’s Free Scheduled
Servicing Policy.
