MERC CLA
New CLA is an A-Class-based four-door coupe
billed as a junior CLS. It is 39mm longer than a C- Class saloon and 10mm lower
and with drag figures of 0.23Cd for the standard car and 0.22Cd for the
BlueEfficiency version. Petrol models range from a 90kW CLA 180 to a 155kW CLA
250. A 125kW CLA 220CDI is top-line diesel variant. All the engines feature the
start/stop, combined with a six-speed manual transmission or with the 7G-DCT
dual clutch automatic transmission. A CLA45 AMG version arrives later, sharing
a 257kW 2.0-litre turbo with the A45 AMG. CLA45 will be offered with a new
4Matic system developed by AMG for front-drive cars and with a fully variable
front-rear torque split.

Merc E63 AMG
Mercedes has split the face lifted E63
range into two variants. Both use a 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8, but opting for the
top-spec ‘S’ model ups power from 409kW to 430kW – enough to hit 100kph in 3.6
seconds. Standard cars, which reach 100kph in 4.2sec, develop 720Nm. S models
get a silly 800Nm. Both use a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, but the S gets a
locking rear differential. Notably, Mercedes will offer the car with all-wheel
drive in some markets. The E63 receives the same single-lens LED head- lights
and reworked side styling as lesser E-Class models, but what’s new is the
in-yer-face front bumper that Merc calls the ‘A-wing’. Contrast-color alloy
wheels, fatter side skirts and diffuser-inset quad exhaust pipes are the other
main E63 clues. Top-line models get an ‘S’ badge on the rear.

Merc E-Class Coupe
Refreshed coupe and cabriolet models get
new petrol engine technology, slight cabin tweaks and a reworked face. Note the
new one-bar grille, aggressive airdam styling and the retention of the pontoon
rear arch creases. Six petrol engines, in outputs from 135kW to 300kW as well
as three diesel units (125kW - 195kW) are available. Inside, there’s a lightly
redesigned instrument cluster, and new trim and leather options.
