>>>step-by-step: Setting Photo Options

After you select a photo in the Windows 8 Photo app, photo options become available that will enable you to work with the photo in various ways. You can set the photo as the Photo app tile so that it appears in the tile on your Windows 8 Start screen, you can choose to use the photo as your Windows 8 lock screen, you can view the image in its online app, delete the photo, you can offer feedback about the photo (thumbs up or thumbs down) or you can display the photo as part of a slide show.

1. When a photo you like is displayed on your screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click to display the options bar.

2. Tap or click to make this photo the image shown on the Photos app tile.

3. Tap or click to use this image as your lock screen photo.

4. Tap or click to view this photo album on the site where it is stored.

If you’re like me, you have a new photo favorite every 15 minutes. You can change your app tile as often as you like—daily, hourly, or even more often, if you’re so inclined. Just display your favorite photo in full-screen view and then swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or double-click) and tap or click Set As App Tile.

>>>step-by-step: Offering Feedback on Photos

We’ve become a culture of photo connoisseurs—or, at least, critics. Often when we click Like on someone’s photo on our favorite social media sites, we could be agreeing with what we see or encouraging their artistry.

1. When a photo you like is displayed on your screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen or right-click to display the options bar.

2. Tap or click Feedback.

3. Type your comment in the Tell Us What You Think box.

4. Tap or click Like or Dislike if you choose.

5. Tap or click Submit. The feedback is added to the photo in the photo-sharing site.

>>>step-by-step: Displaying a Slideshow

You can display a slide show of all images in the current album while you’re viewing your photos in the Photos app.

1. Display the album that you’d like to view in a slide show.

2. Swipe up from the bottom or right-click to display the photo options.

3. Tap or click Slide Show. The first photo in the album appears full-screen and after a few seconds, the next photo appears, and then the next. You can stop the slide show by pressing Esc or by redisplaying the photo options bar.

You can also view and work with your photos using Windows Explorer, which you can access either from the Windows 8 Start screen (by clicking or tapping the Windows Explorer tile) or from the Windows 8 desktop (by clicking or tapping the Windows Explorer icon in the Quick Launch bar).

Display the folder containing the photos you want to view and select one of the photos. Click the Picture Tools Manage tab and click Slide Show in the View group. The photos begin to appear on your screen.

You can control the speed and order of the display of the photos by right-clicking the screen. A context menu appears offering you the option of choosing Shuffle or Loop for the order of the photos. You can also select Slow, Medium, or Fast for the speed of the slideshow. Click outside the context menu to hide it and continue watching the show.
