Once upon a time, web browsers allowed us to
have only one webpage open at a time, but today we’re able to have
multiple pages open in different tabs in Internet Explorer. The desktop
version of IE10 shows each individual tab across the top of the browser
window, but the Metro version of IE10 displays tabs as thumbnails of the
open pages, displayed at the top of your browser screen.
>>>step-by-step: Using Tabs the Metro Way
Tabs in Metro don’t look like tabs in the
desktop version of IE10. In fact, they don’t look like tabs at all. When
you want to display the collection of web pages you already have open,
you can swipe down from the top of the screen or up from the bottom. You
can also press Windows+Z or right-click the mouse to display your IE10
tabs.
1. Swipe down from the top of the IE10 Metro browser window. The tab thumbnails appear.
2. To move to a specific tab, tap or click it. The page appears full-screen.
3. To close a tab you no longer want to use, tap or click the close button.
4. To add a tab, click or tap the Add Tab button.
5. To close all tabs except the current one, click or tap the Options button. A small popup list appears.
6. Tap or click Clean Up Tabs to close the extra tabs.
>>>step-by-step: Opening a New Tab in Desktop IE10
You can easily open a new tab in your IE10
desktop browser window so that you can view a web page in addition to
the one you’re currently viewing.
1. In the desktop version of IE10, click or tap the New Tab button to the right of the current tab.
2.
In the New Tab page, you can see site panels of the most recently
viewed websites you’ve visited. You can tap or click one of the panels
or use the One Box to type the web address of the site you want to
visit. Alternatively, you can enter a word or phrase and search for the
content you want to find.
Double-Display Duty
You
can view two or more pages at the same time by tapping and holding or
clicking a tab and dragging it toward the center of the Internet
Explorer 10 window. The page comes “undocked” from the browser window,
and you can position it onscreen wherever you want it by tapping and
holding or clicking, then dragging the top of the window.
