Photos, photos, everywhere! Today photos have become a natural part of communicating with friends, family, and colleagues. In addition to describing something to others—whether we do that in person, on the phone, or by email—now we can show them easily, using images we capture on our phones, computers, or digital cameras.

Photos are also a big part of the way we connect in social media as we share pictures with each other, tag friends and family members in group images, and post photos in places where others can view them. Windows 8 brings together all these things we like to do with photos—capturing, gathering, organizing, and sharing them—and makes the whole process as natural as tapping and clicking a computer screen.

>>>step-by-step: Adding Photo Accounts to Windows 8

One of the nice things about using your Microsoft account to sign in to your computer is that it automatically synchronizes other accounts that use that same account ID. If you’ve previously used your Windows Live ID to sign in to SkyDrive, for example, or you’ve used it to link other photo-sharing accounts like Flickr, the Windows 8 Photo app may pick up those links automatically and make your albums available right there in Windows 8. For those accounts that haven’t been linked automatically, you can easily connect them to Windows 8 so that you have access to all your photos, no matter where you may have stored them.

1. On the Windows 8 Start screen, tap or click Photos. The Photos app opens, displaying a tile for your Pictures Library, along with a variety of photo sharing accounts.

2. Tap or click the tile that says See Your Albums. This indicates that the service hasn’t yet been set up to work with your Microsoft Account.

3. If you want to know how much Windows 8 will share if you connect this account, click or tap the What Else Happens When I Connect? Link.

4. Click or tap Connect.

5. Tap or click in the Login box and type your user name for the account.

6. Tap or click in the Password box and add your password.

7. Click or tap Sign In.

8. Read through the user agreement and click or tap OK, I’ll Authorize It. When the You’re Ready to Go screen appears, select Done, and your new photo account is automatically added to your Photos app.

Download Photos from Your Phone

If you’re using a Windows Phone, when you connect your phone to your Windows 8 PC, Zune launches and begins syncing your files automatically. You’ll find your newly added photos in a folder added to My Pictures, named for the device.
