The big news for Windows 8 Consumer Preview
when it comes to file tasks is the new Copy dialog box, which helps you
manage large copy operations and resolve conflicts between files that
may have the same name.
>>>step-by-step: Keeping a Close Eye on Your Copying
Some media files are big—really
big. And when you copy one or more of those files at the same time, it
can require quite a bit of computer processing. Now in Windows 8 you can
control how Windows Explorer copies large files, and actually stop the
copy if some are gumming up the process.
1. In the Navigation pane, click or tap the folder containing the files you want to copy.
2. Select the files or folders you want to copy.
3. Click or tap the Home tab.
4. Click or tap Copy.
5. Navigate to the folder where you want to paste the files.
6. Click or tap Paste. The new copy dialog box appears, showing you the process of the copy.
7. If you want to cancel the copy operation, click or tap the X.
8. If you want to pause the operation, tap or click the pause button.
Seeing More Details
If
you want to get more information about the copy procedure, you can tap
or click More Details in the copy dialog box. The additional details
show you the names of the files as they are copied, and displays the
estimated amount of time remaining and the number of items remaining in
the copy process. You can pause or cancel the copy procedure by tapping
or clicking the pause or cancel tools.
