>>>step-by-step: Solving Copy Conflicts

Another new change for the Windows Explorer copy process is the way in which the utility resolves conflicts when two files have the same name. This can happen easily when you are moving files from one computer to another—which file is the most recent one? Windows Explorer helps you make the call in the Replace or Skip Files dialog box.

1. Paste the files as usual in the new location. If files already exist in that folder with the same names, the Replace or Skip Files dialog box appears.

2. Click or tap Replace if you want to replace the existing files with the ones you are pasting into the folder.

3. Click or tap Skip These Files if you want to keep the existing files in the current folder.

4. If you want to compare the files, click or tap Choose the Files to Keep in the Destination Folder.

5. If you want to choose to keep the files in one of the folders displayed, click the checkbox to the left of your choice.

6. Compare the creation dates and times, as well as the file sizes, to determine which files you want to keep. Click or tap the checkboxes of those files.

7. Click or tap Continue. Windows Explorer completes the copy operation using the file you selected.

>>>step-by-step: Sharing Files

When you’re ready to share your files with the world, select the file or group of files you want to share and tap or click the Share tab. You’ll find tools that enable you to print, email, fax, burn to disc, or share the files with others in your Homegroup or who have accounts on your computer.

1. Select the file or files you want to share.

2. Click or tap the Share tab.

3. In the Send group, choose whether you want to email, Zip, Burn to disc, Print, or Fax your selection.

4. In the Share With group, choose the groups or users from the list with whom you want to share the files.

5. If you want to stop sharing selected files, click Stop Sharing.

6. Fine-tune your security settings by clicking or tapping Advanced Security and adjusting the permission levels assigned to those you’re sharing the files with.

Sync Your Windows Explorer Settings

When you choose the Sync Your Settings tool in the PC Settings screen, you’ll now be able to sync your Windows Explorer options and preferences along with the other Windows 8 settings that are synched from computer to computer.
