Yamaha TT-R125L/ TT-R125LE

The TTR125L and TT-R125LE are recreational off-roaders powered by the same air-cooled, 124 cc, two-valve single cylinder engine. Fuelling is via a Mikuni VM20 carburetor, and the five-speed gearbox uses a heavy-duty clutch. The R125L is an old-school kick start-only affair while the R125LE features electric start (with manual kick start back-up). An easily accessible and washable foam air filter minimizes maintenance costs. The LE's Showa fork is fully adjustable while the L model’s fork is adjustable for preload only.

Subtle changes to the seat cover and chain were some of the updates implemented several years ago, along with a new fork, revised Monocross linkage lever ratio, new shock valving, lightweight wave-style brake rotors and short front brake lever.

A non-adjustable 36 mm fork and Mono cross rear suspension with preload-adjustable shock provide moderate wheel travel, while a front disc brake enhances stopping power. Rims are aluminum and styling mimics the YZ models.

Yamaha YZ250F / 450F

Yamaha's four-stroke YZ250F Moto crosser underwent a stem-to-stern makeover last year. Engine updates, including an increased carb size to 39 mm and lightened piston assembly, contributed to claimed increases in mid-range and top-end power. The new, stronger bilateral beam frame, tapered swing arm, and revised suspension were designed to optimize handling and stability. The 450F, with its unique rearward-slanting cylinder and Power Tuner customizable power delivery, got new fuel injection settings for 2012.

Yamaha WR250F / 450F

·         Price: $8,499/$8,999

·         Engine Liquid-cooled: four-stroke

·         Displacement: 249/449 cc

Yamaha WR250F / 450F

The WR Enduro models are closely modeled after YZ-F Moto crossers, including the engines and aluminum frames. Cam profiles and ECU mappings are altered to improve low-speed response and midrange torque. The unchanged $8,4-99 WR250F continues to use a 37mm Keihin FCR flat-slide carburetor. The $8,999 WR450F was revamped in 2012 with a bilateral beam frame from the YZ250F, 48 mm fork, fully adjustable KYB shock, new bodywork, and a switch from carbs to fuel injection.

Zero MX / X/ XU

Zero's track-oriented MX is based on its 2011 World Electric Indoor Motocross championship winner. The Zero FX uses the engine from the MX model, but in street legal form. Zero describes the XU as an "urban-crosser" designed for the street but with the minimalistic look of an off-roader. The MX and X are both chain-driven while the XU uses a belt, and all three are available with more powerful motors for a premium and have battery packs that can be recharged in standard 110V or 220V outlets.

Honda CRF250L

·         Price: $4,999

·         Engine Liquid-cooled: four-stroke

·         Displacement: 249 cc

The aluminum frame is mated to an inverted fork and preload-adjustable shock, both of which offer increased travel compared to the CRF230L. There are four bungee hooks to tie down your bags and a lockable storage compartment, and the multi-function instrument panel includes a fuel gauge and clock.
