Nissan revealed two concepts at Tokyo - the IDx Freeflow and
– hinting at a possible future compact rear-drive couple. Seemingly, both cars
are styled with the direct input ò so-called ‘digital natives’, specifically a
generation of customers born after 1990. Nissan claims the engagement with
future consumers is now a prerequisite for success and an answer to the Subaru
BRZ and Toyota GT86, which it describes as ‘mid-life crisis’ models. The
Freeflow is a step in a different direction and intended more as a lifestyle
companion rather than a hard-charging coupe and most probably powered by its
1.2 and 1.5-liter engines with CVT drive. Nissan says highlights and trim are
influenced by the pairing of a white T-shirt and khaki chinos. The Nismo
instead is half a meter wider with carbon panels, side exhaust and 19-inch
wheels. The familiar DIG-T turbocharged 1.6-liter petrol engine with a CVT is
the likely power plant.
The IDx Nismo
The interior of
the IDx Nismo is what you’d expect from a concept vehicle with a racing spirit
to it.
The red Alcantara
looks really gaudy.
The IDx Nismo also
comes with a glass roof, an eye-catching three-color finish made up of a
predominantly white body with black and red racing accents, including a number
"80" livery that has some significance to it that only Nissan can
tell us.
