Closing a checked out file
When you close a file that is checked out, a dialog box opens and
asks whether the file should remain checked out to you or whether you
would like to undo the checkout so others can edit the document, as
shown in Figure 7.
Checking in a file from within Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or Visio
When you use an Office application to open a document that is
checked out in a library, from within the Office application, you can
check the document in. Use the following procedure in Word, PowerPoint,
or Excel to check in a document to SharePoint.
-
Within Word,
PowerPoint, or Excel, navigate to the Info tab on the Backstage view
and then click Check In, as shown here. In Visio, you will then need to
click Check In again.
-
The Check In dialog box allows you to type a comment and provides
the option to keep working on the file after checking in the document.
When minor or major versioning is enabled for a library, you can also
select if you want to check the file in as a minor or major version, as
shown here.
On the Info tab to the right of the Check In option, you can choose
to discard checkout to undo the previous checkout. A dialog box opens
and warns you that you have changes that haven’t been checked in yet
and whether you still want to undo the checkout.
Note
The
Keep The Document Checked Out After Checking In This Version option is
available when versioning is not enabled. When a library is enabled for
versioning, then this option is not available if you are checking in a
major version or publishing a file. It will be available when checking
in a minor version of the file.
