Windows 8 : Internet Explorer 10 - Settings (part 1) - To search for an item

The tile-based IE10 offers a very limited number of settings that you can alter, but the important ones are illustrated here. Desktop IE10 has many more tools for changing browsing behavior, as you will see in a moment.

The tile-based IE10’s Charms bar allows you to open settings pages related to Internet Explorer.

1. To display the tile-based IE10’s Charms bar

• Swipe to the right side of a display.

• Place the cursor in the lower-right corner of the screen and hold it for a second.

2. To search for an item

1. Click the Search charm in the Charms bar .

2. Enter a search string into the Search field .

3. Click the Find button (magnifying glass) to the right of the Search field.

Notice that Internet Explorer is automatically selected for you. When you first open this Search bar, the name of your default search engine appears in the Search field. The charms and this same search function are available within the Desktop version of IE10 as well.

3. To share pages or links

Click the Share charm, and select either the Mail or People application to send that content to your intended audience.

The Start charm sends you to the Start screen and is a system-wide function. You can perform the same action by pressing the Windows Image key on your keyboard. Devices is also a system function, sending your page or selection to a printer or to a program like One Note.
