Appear
on the premiere show of 'Late Night With Seth Meyers', rapper-turned-designer
Kanye West has spoken on his move from making music to designing clothing.
Kanye, who recently launched two collections with Parisian label A.P.C. and has
previously created trainers in collaboration with Nike, comments that he turned
to fashion to express himself creatively and in a new artistic way.
The
rapper says that he wanted to make "sculptures" when he first tried
fashion design. When asked by Meyers if the creative process of making music is
the same when it comes to fashion, Kanye says it is "exactly the
same" because of how he approaches being creative: "Everything
in the world is exactly the same. When I want to do fashion, I just want
to give you sculptures." Kanye mentions that because of his celebrity
status it has been hard for him to be taken seriously as a fashion designer and
he doesn't believe it's a door that's open to him anymore.
And
although Kanye might feel that his fashion career won't work out for him,
Meyers says he believes in West, commenting: "I am betting on you,
based on how everything has gone up until this point," and Kanye responds
that he appreciates having his support: "Thank you. I appreciate that you
bet on me. Now it'd just be great if you owned a fashion company and you could
support me." Kanye recently signed a new deal with Adidas but has
yet to debut any designs with the company after he cut ties with rival sports
brand Nike last year.
