Pharrell
Williams recently made news when he announced that he was selling off his
famous towering hat that he originally wore to the 2014 Grammy Awards in order
to raise money for his 'From One Hand to Another' charity via eBay. Now, the
auction is closed and the vintage Vivienne Westwood design has sold for $44,100
to American brand Arby's, whose own logo looks similar to the hat. When the
listing first went live, the company tweeted at the musician: "Hey
@Pharrell, can we have our hat back?" and Williams replied:
"Y'all tryna (sic) start roast beef?"
When
the auction closed, Pharrell wrote a congratulations message via his twitter
account: ''Thank you to whoever bought my Grammy hat on @eBay for $44,100.
Your donation benefits From One Hand to Another. (sic)'' Arby's
responded: ''You're welcome.
We're HAPPY to support a great cause & get our hat back. Good luck at the
#Oscars tonight! (sic)'' to which Pharrell said: 'What a pleasant
surprise. Thank you @Arbys, our roast beef is now officially well done. (sic)''
The
company added a special good luck message to Pharrell who was due to perform
his hit single 'Happy' at the Oscars show: "You're welcome.
We're Happy to
support a great cause & get our hat back." When the singer arrived on
stage, he was wearing a very close copy of the statement hat, this time by
Lanvin. He said about the design which matched a suit: 'I can't take the
credit for it. It's Lanvin! It's a whole Lanvin suit.''
