Lots of folks have been chomping at the bit
wanting to see what kind of offerings will be available for Windows 8
users in the Windows Store. Now with Windows 8 Consumer Preview, we get
our first look at the Windows Store and we can download and install the
apps we find to our liking. While Windows 8 is still in beta, all the
apps in the Windows Store are free, but you can be sure this will change
as Windows 8 goes into general release.
For now, though, you can shop around in the
Windows Store to your heart’s content and download and install the apps
you think will make your life a little easier (or at least a little
more fun). This section shows you how to navigate the Windows Store and
add new apps to your Windows 8 PC.
>>>step-by-step: Introducing the Windows Store
It’s no big surprise that the Windows Store
app tile appears in the easy-to-find location at the far left end of
your Windows 8 Start screen. The Store app tile has a live tile
notification telling you the number of apps you currently have installed
that now have updates available through the Windows Store.
1. Launch the Windows Store by tapping or clicking the Store app tile.
2.
Scroll by swiping or using the mouse to look through apps in the
following categories: Games, Social, Entertainment, Photos, Music &
Videos, Books & Reference, News & Weather, Food & Dining,
Shopping, Travel, Finance, Productivity, Tools, and Security.
3. Tap a collection tile to see apps in a specific group of a category (for example, “Top Free” or “All Stars.”
4. Tap the tile of the app you want to download.
