The 2014 Acura RLX is actually the global concept car for a small SUV which has been developed for the Chinese market. In fact, this is the first time for the company to unveil the world debut of a concept model outside of North America. The sharp styling and driving performance, the environmental performance of a small car and excellent utility of an SUV are all mixed together at a high level in this car. The automaker plans to start the local production and sales in China of a mass-production model based on this concept car for its market in about 3 years ahead.

Interior

The 2014 Acura RLX comes with so many signature Acura styling cues, jazzed up with some dramatic flourishes that probably will not be on said production model. The standard interior features of the 2014 Acura RLX are the 5-seat configuration with plenty of leather and some touches of Alcantara along with the advanced infotainment system.

Exterior

The exterior design of RLX is fairly similar with Acura’s other concept car namely the NSX. For instance, this car has the same slit-like LED headlight configuration of NSX concept car. Also, it has been positioned a little bit higher than usual and almost too high. Below the lights, there will be the swooping contoured design which will make a visual illusion so that the headlights will look bigger. The front bumper also comes with huge air intakes with fog lights and wrapped in chrome details. Moreover, you will notice that the rear end of the RLX is apparently not as ostentatious looking as the front. There will be the toned down version of Acura’s beak grille, headlights that incorporate the jeweled LED elements of the RLX and MDX. The RLX also comes with the similar side window shape as the MDX and RDX.

Engine

The company has not released any details yet about the new RLX. We may expect that something along the lines of a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces a shade below 300 horsepower (faster than 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid Concept but it’s slower than 2014 GMC Terrain) is well suited for the concept model. If Acura goes the route of giving the RLX this engine, you can also expect it to be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and be capable of hitting 60 mph in 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 125 mph.

Price

The price range of 2014 Acura RLX has not been unveiled yet. The real challenger of RLX will be the 2013 Honda Urban SUV Concept.
