>>>step-by-step: Adding Music to Your Collection

The Music Marketplace includes a huge collection of albums from a wide variety of artists, and you’re sure to find something you like. Organized like the Windows Store, you’ll be able to find the genres, albums, and artists you like. What’s more, you can use the Search charm to locate just the music you’re looking for.

1. Display the Music app and scroll to the right to display the Music Marketplace.

2. Tap or click one of the albums shown in the preview area, or

3. Tap or click Show More to browse or search the Marketplace library.

What’s Your Choice?

The Music Marketplace offers a huge range of genres for you to choose from. Categories include rock, hip hop, R&B/soul, pop, electronic/dance, latin, reggae/dancehall, world, country, classical, jazz, blues/folk, comedy/spoken word, Christian/gospel, soundtracks, kids, and more.

>>>step-by-step: Purchasing Tunes

When you find an album or a song you just have to have, purchasing it is simply a matter of using your Microsoft Points to buy it. If you don’t have Microsoft Points—or you need to add more to your account—you can do that right at the point of sale.

1. When you find music you want to purchase, and tap or click Buy Album, you are taken to the Confirm Purchase screen. To buy the song or album, select Confirm. The Music app downloads the music to your My Music folder.

2. If you decide you’d rather not purchase the music, select Cancel to return to the previous screen.

What Are Microsoft Points?

Microsoft Points are a kind of “virtual currency” that Microsoft uses for purchases of games and media. The nice thing about Microsoft Points is that they can be used no matter where in the world you are or what currency you are using. You can purchase Microsoft Points in the quantity you choose and then use them as needed for the albums, songs, videos, and games you want to buy.

>>> Go Further: Where’s Media Center?

Although Windows Media Center doesn’t get its own app on the Windows 8 Start screen, the utility is still part of Windows 8. You can find Windows Media Center by typing windows media on your keyboard or by tapping or clicking the Search charm and entering windows media in the search box. Windows Media Center appears in the results list, and you can tap or click it to launch the program.

Windows Media Center works the way it did in Windows 7, enabling you to stream live TV, record shows, listen to music, and view photos on your PC.

Windows Media Player is also still a part of Windows 8, but with the Xbox Live influence, it isn’t needed as a default media player. You can launch Windows Media Player by typing the utility name on your keyboard at the Start screen or by using the Search charm to locate and start the tool.
