Famed
British fashion photographer David Bailey has taken portraits of some of the
biggest celebrity names ever over the course of his impressive career and now
he's bringing some extremely memorable snaps to a new line of t-shirts for men
in collaboration with The Bleach Room. Costing a relatively reasonable £70
each, the t-shirts feature a whole host of instantly recognizable faces
- Mick Jagger, Johnny Depp, Sir Michael Caine, Boy George, Grace Jones and
John Lennon.
Opening
up on the line, Bailey says this doesn't mark a permanent career change for him
and he's decided to keep it simple by sticking to only t-shirts, denying his
involvement in fashion design: “It’s not fashion; it’s just a t-shirt.” Bailey
is 76-years-old and says he "was never that interested in
fashion” but is happy that the t-shirts may make his work more accessible
to the masses who may want to own one of his prints: "Not everyone can
afford a print [so] it’s a nice way of making [my work available] for everyone…
I think it’s quite nice that everyone can have a t-shirt that has an image with
some history behind it.”
David
is also being celebrated with a new Stardust exhibition at the National
Portrait Gallery which has been put together by fashion label Hugo Boss. The
exhibition features a comprehensive retrospective, featuring over 250 images
and spanning his entire career as a photographer. The new t-shirt collection is
available for a limited time only and can be purchased at Selfridges in
London.
