Adobe InDesign CS5 : Working with Objects and Layers - Using the Direct Selection Tool
With the Direct Selection tool, you can select a point on an object or graphics inside an object. When you point to (New!) or select an object with the Direct Selection tool, path and anchor points appear on the corners of the frame to make it easier to identify and view. You no longer need to select an object to select an anchor point.
Corel Painter X : Basic Drawing - Send In the Clones
We’ve been using only the Tracing Paper feature of cloning so far. You can turn any variant into a Cloner Brush by enabling the Clone Color check box on the color picker. Its icon is a rubber stamp.
Corel Painter X : Basic Drawing - The Pear
It’s a good example of a simple still life subject. It looks good enough to eat and draw (not necessarily in that order). There are other delicious images in the Produce section of the folder. All are ripe for the picking and painting.
CorelDraw 10 : Page and Document Setup - Setting a Page Background
You can add a background color or picture to any document. Backgrounds are commonly used on party invitations, brochures, and Web pages, for example. (Note that when you set a background, it is applied to all pages in the document.)
CorelDraw 10 : Page and Document Setup - Setting Page Size and Orientation
When creating a drawing, it's important to design with a particular paper size and orientation in mind. You can use either of the following procedures to specify these settings.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 : Creating and Applying Styles (part 5) - Debugging your applied CSS
Anyone working with CSS for any amount of time has experienced the frustration of seeing their Dreamweaver-perfect page break in one or more browsers. Real-world browser testing is a tried-and-true technique, but a tedious and time-consuming one with no clear solutions.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 : Creating and Applying Styles (part 4) - Editing and managing style sheets
Style sheets, like most elements of a Web page, are almost never set in stone. Designers need to be able to modify style rules — whether they're embedded or from an external style sheet — at a moment's notice. Through the CSS Styles panel's Edit Styles mode, Dreamweaver provides near-immediate access.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 : Creating and Applying Styles (part 3) - Applying, changing, and removing a style
As noted, any HTML tags redefined as CSS styles in an attached style sheet are automatically applied to your document. However, any custom CSS style must be applied on a case-by-case basis.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 : Creating and Applying Styles (part 2) - Applying styles through the Property inspector, Attaching an external style sheet
Now that CSS-enabled browsers dominate, more Web designers are encountering clients with existing external style sheets. To apply the site's design specifications to a new page, all the designer need do is connect the current page to the CSS document. Dreamweaver provides a streamlined method for doing just that.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 : Creating and Applying Styles (part 1) - Generating new styles
The world of CSS can be overwhelming to the novice designer: How do you even begin to master this complex set of rules and concepts? Dreamweaver offers many routes to explore CSS, but perhaps the easiest entry is through the Property inspector.
Adobe Illustrator CS5 : Working with Objects - Using the Shape Builder Tool
The Shape Builder tool allows you to create complex objects by merging and erasing simpler objects. The Shape Builder tool selects edges and regions of an object, which can be merged or erased to form a new object.
Adobe Illustrator CS5 : Working with Objects - Creating Grids
The grid tools on the Tools panel allow you to create a rectangular or circular polar grid. The Rectangular Grid tool creates rectangular grids of a specified size and number of horizontal and vertical dividers. The Polar Grid tool creates concentric circles of a specified size and specific number of concentric and radial dividers.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 : Additional Selection Commands
If you have an existing selection, you can use the Border command. You can enter a value between 1 and 200 pixels. A new selection that frames the existing selection will be created.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 : Basic Selection Tools
Photoshop’s Tools panel contains three categories of tools that you can use to create a basic selection: Marquee tools, Lasso tools, and Wand tools. While these three are very useful, many users forget that they are only starting points. Learning to use them is important, but again, it’s just the beginning.
Adobe Fireworks CS5 : Fireworks and Dreamweaver (part 3) - Three-slice technique for content containers
A common visual technique for containing web content is to put the content inside some sort of container, often called a pod, which can expand vertically or horizontally to contain additional content. The three-slice technique creates a pod that expands in one dimension while the other dimension remains fixed.
Adobe Fireworks CS5 : Fireworks and Dreamweaver (part 2) - Round-trip editing
Another request has come in—this one for a change to the navigation bar. The client would prefer the navigation text to be closer to the right and with more spacing between each link. You will make this change using round-trip editing.
Adobe Fireworks CS5 : Fireworks and Dreamweaver (part 1) - Copying and pasting to Dreamweaver
It’s no surprise that products within Adobe Creative Suite are meant to play well together—they are a suite, after all. In this section, you’ll learn some techniques for making the most of the integration between Fireworks and Dreamweaver.
Adobe Flash Professional CS5 : Working Within the Flash Environment - Organizing Layers
In much the same way you organize files on your computer, you can use similar concepts to organize layers and layer folders in a document. You can expand or collapse a layer folder to show or hide its contents.
Adobe Flash Professional CS5 : Working Within the Flash Environment - Viewing Layers
Flash includes controls (Eye, Lock, and Outline icons) in the layers section of the Timeline that allow you to quickly hide, show, lock, or unlock layers and layer folders, and display objects on a layer as colored outlines.
Adobe InDesign CS5 : Opening Documents and Templates (part 2) - Converting documents created with other programs
Because other programs' formats are so different from InDesign's, and their capabilities differ as well, the chances of being able to import a foreign document and have it flawlessly convert to InDesign are small. Use this feature as the first step in the conversion process, but expect to spend time cleaning up the converted files by hand.
Adobe InDesign CS5 : Opening Documents and Templates (part 1) - Working with files in the Bridge file system
Bridge is designed to be a central repository for Creative Suite programs and support files, mainly for use in workgroup situations but also as an Adobe-centric alterative to the standard Mac and Windows file systems.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 : Working with the CSS Styles Panel
The CSS Styles panel is Dreamweaver's central point for establishing, modifying, and learning about Cascading Style Sheets. It is, by far, the most complex and sophisticated of any of Dreamweaver's panels and requires a bit of explanation to help you to understand how best to use it.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 : Understanding Cascading Style Sheets
Cascading Style Sheets are able to apply many features with a simple syntax that is easy to understand. If you're familiar with the concept of using styles in a word processing program, you'll have no trouble grasping style sheets.
Corel Painter X : The Great Outdoors - Just Add Watercolor, Bayside Scene
There are several things we ought to do before we start to render this scene. That wide expanse of sky is not very interesting, so let’s minimize it. Use the Crop tool and your judgment about how much of the image should be eliminated. I decided to include a bit more of the water and pier structure on the right side this time.
Adobe Illustrator CS5 : Working with Objects - Creating Arcs and Spirals
The Arc and Spiral tools make it easy to create unique and interesting shapes. These tools draw curved lines to create an individual arc or a Spiral wind. An arc consists of an x and y axis length, open or closed path, arc direction (known as the Base Along), arc slope, and arc fill (optional).
Adobe Illustrator CS5 : Working with Objects - Creating Polygons and Stars, Creating Line Segments
The Polygon and Star tools work in much the same way as the Ellipse and Rectangle tools do to allow you to easily create complex vector shapes. You can use these tools to create either polygons or stars.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 : Sizing Digital Images - Resizing an Image (part 4) - Content-Aware Scaling, Puppet Warp, Using Smart Objects Before Transforming
The Content-Aware scaling feature is a way to intelligently scale an image that allows for certain details to be preserved while others are distorted. It can be used to recompose an image. When used correctly, the image will automatically adapt to preserve vital areas during the scale.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 : Sizing Digital Images - Resizing an Image (part 3) - Rotate Canvas Command, Free Transform Command
The Free Transform command is another useful way to rotate and size an image. It works best when you have an object located on its own floating layer (not a Background) or if you have an active selection.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 : Sizing Digital Images - Resizing an Image (part 2) - Crop Tool
With the Crop tool you can change a viewer’s perception of an image. You can choose to tighten the area of interest of an image, which allows you to de-emphasize (or even eliminate) parts of a photo and improve the image by better framing the subject.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 : Sizing Digital Images - Resizing an Image (part 1) - Image Size, Canvas Size
The Image Size command lets you permanently reassign the total pixel count, as well as resolution, for a particular image. You can also use this command to upsample or downsample an image. This is an easy way to size an image to a specific height or width.
